...this months Design Focus is on Bridal Attendants...
Unique Considerations:
  • Do you want the Maid/Matron of Honor to be distinguished from the other attendants? This can be achieved by increasing the size of her bouquet or by using a color unique to her piece.
  • Do you have a Jr. Bridesmaid? Do you want their flowers to be different?
  • Remember to bring a swatch of their dresses to your consultation as a starting point in selecting the color scheme.
  • Consider the attendants' flowers in relation to yours - size, color and form - so that your flowers are clearly distinct, like your dress - something beautiful, just for you!
Form:
How do you want your bridal attendants to hold their flowers (in front, cradled in their arm or cascading in front)? The choice of their dresses may suggest a form. A cascading piece may obscure a decorative panel or an arm bouquet may interfere with a shawl or wrap.

Style:
The bouquet should compliment the style of your bridal attendants' dresses; simple, elegant and tailored or billowing, garden-like and romantic. The formality of the occasion should also be considered. Ribbonwork can do a lot to make the piece more formal.

Trends:
Round, hand-held pieces are very popular. There are techniques to ensure that the flowers have a water supply. Hand-tied bouquets have some limitations if they are simply gathered, loose flowers that will be delivered and carried out of water.

Unusual pieces incorporating novelties like fans, feathers and lanterns can be beautiful. Historic practices are finding their way back and attendants are carrying floral wreaths or silver tussy mussy holders from Victorian times.
